Adele is a Sociology lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University. Her research explores how contraceptive knowledge is produced and valued in England. Using interviews, surveys, and Instagram netnography, she examines what counts as valid knowledge and how the practice of ‘contracepting’ is shaped through everyday experiences.

I’m a trainee clinical psychologist in Tees, Esk & Wear Valley, working across various services. I am also a researcher and my work focuses on reproductive health inequalities, including the experiences of women whose children are in care. I’m currently exploring the mental health of young parents under 18 in the North East of England to inform more supportive, empowering practices.

Heather Brown is a Professor of Health Inequalities at Lancaster University. Her main research interests are the economics causes and consequences of health inequalities and policy evaluation. She is particularly interested in inequalities across and between generations and how policies can reduce these inequalities by removing structural barriers. Heather uses large datasets including linked data to evaluate policy as well as identify current trends and areas for future policy and interventions. She is also interested in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to make complex quantitative data analysis accessible and user friendly.

Dr. Becky Mawson, a GP and Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield, leads research on reproductive health inequalities. Through the The Hormone Education (T.H.E) project, she’s developing a multilingual platform to capture diverse contraceptive experiences, aiming to improve access, representation, and data inclusivity for underserved communities in primary care.

Dr Deirdre Duffy is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology (Global Social Inequalities). She joined Lancaster University in 2022 having previously worked at Manchester Metropolitan University. Her research focuses on access to health care, health social movements, and reproductive governance. She has extensive experience in collaborating with activists and policy-makers globally on abortion rights and care. She was lead researcher on the first review of abortion services in the Republic of Ireland following the historic liberalisation of abortion law.
